My family had several traditions growing up; one that I have missed more than anything was having slumber parties with my brother and sister on Christmas Eve. We always made a fort or a huge bed that we would sleep in while dreaming and talking to each other about what we thought Santa would bring us. We would leave out cookies and milk then wake up bright and early hoping our parents would let us go downstairs to see what we got.
My parents never let us go downstairs until they brushed their teeth, turned on Christmas music, and had the video camera ready to tape us as we ran down the stairs. It always felt like it took them hours and I’m pretty sure my dad always took his time on purpose to make us stand at the top of the stairs with anticipation.
Some may mock that I still live at home with my parents but I consider myself lucky. I love every minute that I get to spend there. This year the traditions continued and our family was fortunate enough to have Jonathan with us for Christmas. Christmas Eve we always eat pizza, open a new pair of pajamas, and watch “A King Is Born”. I had to work until 10:00 that night so when I got home all the fun activities were over.

When I got home from work on Christmas Eve Jon was in the kitchen cooking. He made my families entire Christmas breakfast the night before so all we had to do was put it in the oven when we woke up! He used all of his mom’s recipes and the food was so delicious! I’m still impressed!! He made a hash brown casserole that had eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, and cheese on top. He also made “Monkey Bread” or “Sticky Buns” as some people call it, I wish I had taken a picture of it. He is so impressive he amazes me more and more everyday.

Jon and I built a fort, watched “Elf” on my laptop and talked about what we thought Santa would bring us. We woke up at 8:30 and of course my parent’s had to video tape us as we headed downstairs to see what Santa brought. (NO we are not too old for this) :)
